Fecha Yap, PostGrad Dip PT, United Kingdom
Fecha holds a business degree but her interest since childhood has always been in music. She started her career as a music teacher (piano) in 2005. She teaches children from ages 3 to 16. She believes that the best way to teach children is by engaging them through fun and creative play.
She was first interested in special needs education when her nephew was diagnosed with Autistism Spectrum Disorder. She has a very close relationship with him and has been actively participating in his Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy sessions. To develop an even deeper understanding of her nephew, Fecha decided to pursue a diploma in learning disorders and child psychology. Through her studies, she found out about Therapeutic Play, otherwise known as Play Therapy. She believed that it would help her nephew with his emotional well-being and social skills. She saw how effective Play Therapy was and was inspired to pursue it to help other children.
Fecha is a certified play therapist and member of Play Therapy International (PTI). She obtained her Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills and Postgraduate Diploma in Play Therapy from Play Therapy UK (PTUK). She has experience with ADHD, ASD, cerebral palsy, GDD, and mental health issues (grief, abuse, bullying). She has practiced in student enrichment centres, Singapore Association for the Deaf, Canossaville Children’s Home and Club Rainbow.
She has also received training in the following:
